Newspapers in APA 6th

 

Type of Source: Format and General Example:

Print Newspaper Article

Author’s name. (Date of publication). Article title. Newspaper title, page number.

 

Leonhardt, D. (2010, February 17). Judging a stimulus by the jobs. The New York Times, pp. B1.

Online Newspaper Article

Author’s name. (Date of publication). Article title. Newspaper title. Web address

Huerbin, J. (2010, March 11). Men's basketball: Pitt unlucky against Notre Dame, lose in quarterfinals of Big East tournament. The Pitt News. Retrieved from http://www.pittnews.com/

Newspaper articles from a Library Database

Author’s name. (Date of publication). Article title. Newspaper title, page numbers.

 

Note: APA 6th does not include giving the name of the database in the citation.  As library databases almost always provide the page numbers, the citation should look the same as the print newspaper citation.  Usually you will not include the URL of an article found from a library database (like Academic Search Complete) unless you absolutely have to.
